Diagnostics

Check engine light diagnostics in Baton Rouge.

A code is a starting point, not an answer. We read it, test the parts it points to, and explain what is actually wrong before anything gets replaced.

Steady or flashing

A flashing light means slow down now.

A steady check engine light means something is out of range and should be looked at soon. A flashing light usually means the engine is misfiring badly enough to damage the catalytic converter. Drive gently and get it checked right away.

Codes

Why a free code read is not a diagnosis.

A parts store scan tells you which system is complaining, not which part failed. An oxygen sensor code can be a bad sensor, a vacuum leak or a wiring problem. Testing is what keeps you from buying parts you did not need.

Common fixes

Many are done on the spot.

Loose gas caps, spark plugs, ignition coils, sensors and vacuum leaks are common causes, and most can be repaired in a driveway once they are found.

Tell us about the car

What is it doing, and where is it?

Year, make and model, what is going on, and where the car is parked. The more detail, the better we can bring the right part.

We only use this to get back to you about your car.

Light on the dash?

Call with the year, make and model, what it is doing, and where it is parked. If it is easier, send it over and we will call you back.
